About Innovation Week (i-Week)
The Innovation Week- “i-week” is an initiative of the Ghana – India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT. The Innovation Week aims at showcasing ICT innovations in Ghana and her ECOWAS neighbors. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) represent key elements for economic and social development in Sub-Saharan Africa. Innovation should be showcased and promoted in all sectors of the economy including education, health, agriculture and business. The development of home-grown applications, technological solutions, sustainable local ICT services, ICT-driven businesses, making use of Open Source technologies also need to be encouraged and given exposure for the growth of the technology ecosystem.
Innovation Week 2017
The 2017 Innovation Week (i-Week) tentatively scheduled for Friday 24th November to 30th November, 2017. This year’s theme, “Exponential Technologies & Innovation” will focus on embracing innovation and efficiency in all sectors and fast tracking growth and success rates for Start-ups and SMEs. Exponential Technologies (EXPONTech) that double in power or processing speed every year, while their cost halves and includes network sensors, AI, robotics, synthetic biology, 3D printing. in organizations leading to innovative solutions. i-week 2017 will continue to celebrate remarkable contributions to technology and innovation in Ghana and Africa.
What’s Happening this year
A 2-day developer-focused conference is included in this year’s I-Week. Participants gain practical skills on crafting code, DevOps, frameworks and more. This will be a purely problem-solving session. Find answers for real challenges, insights to help software careers and opportunities to network with some of the best developers.
Raspberry Pi 4 Senior High
A new addition to the event is a Raspberry Pi workshop and competition to unearth talents at the Senior High levels. Teams will be selected from Senior High Schools to develop an innovative solution to be presented at I-Week 2017. The competing teams will come up with a solution using a Raspberry Pi kit. Solutions should be applicable to the SDGs or any of the 8 WSA categories.
CTO / CIO / IT Managers Connect
This will be a high-level discussion among decision makers on the current and potential threats to operational excellence and security challenges their organisations face today. Top managers will share ideas on best practices.
EXPONTech & Drone Show
Entrepreneurs who have built businesses on Exponential technologies will share experiences on how to cash in on the emerging and lucrative EXPONTech. Discussions around the use of drones in various sectors and demonstrations of how Drones can be integrated into consumer and industrial Internet of Things applications will continue. Participants can also learn how to fly a drone.
i-Week 2017 will also bring together vendors in the EXPONTech space to showcase their innovative solutions and how the nation can leverage on the technology to develop.
Vendors we intend to invite:
Huawei – Showcase its award winning (Best IoT Platform at IoT World Europe 2017) Ocean Connect IoT platform. Huawei has an open ecosystem through partners covering connected car, smart home, utilities, smart city and other fields.
Samsung – SmartThings is a range of home monitoring kits meant for improving resource usage in the home. Some of the use cases will apply to Smart City projects. ARTIK is another platform.
Microsoft – MS has the Windows IoT for embedded computing such as Raspberry Pi and the Azure IoT Suite for cloud-based remote infrastructure control and monitoring.
Google – Offer frameworks such as Brillo and Weave to create innovative solutions using devices, sensors, cloud and mobile with analytic, monitoring, etc.
IBM – Watson IoT Platform for connecting devices through cloud and applying analytic
Cisco – Its Jasper IoT Platform widely used by automotive industry and Enterprises
Nuratel – International VoIP Carrier serving the needs of Telecom operators around the world.
EXPONTech Hands-on Workshops
As part of the programme there will be parallel workshops on Exponential technologies, GIS applications and Real-time computing.
Event Keepsake / Give-away / Tech Magazine
Attendees get to have the newly launched InfoPreneur magazine, i-Week 2017 IT almanac / infographic which catalogues key ongoing projects, national statistics, analytic and useful info for business decision-making. Should be good enough to be kept on a manager’s desk which would also be a marketing tool. Sponsors can buy space to have their logos on. Could be a flip-over desk calendar-like print.

Vendor solutions, projects from Tech hubs and Startups will be on display at the exhibition hall running concurrently with the main event.
DevCon (27th – 28th Nov. 1pm – 5pm each day)
This will be a community-driven developer-focused session. The goal is to get experienced developers to show how to do things.

Media Launch :
A media launch will be held at least 1 week after the I-Week website goes live. The launch should however be at least 4 weeks ahead of the scheduled start date of 27th November 2017.
The press launch will bring together selected media who will learn more about the event (theme, focus, activities, speakers etc) and help spread the word on i-Week 2017.
