AITI-KACE Celebrates 2017 INNOVATION WEEK (I-week 2017)
Accra, Ghana, 16th November, 2017 – The Ghana- India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence (AITI- KACE) for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) celebrates its 2017 edition of Innovation Week on the theme: “Exponential Technologies and Innovation; An Enabler in The Socio-Economic Development of Ghana”.
The annual event scheduled for Monday, December 4, to December7, 2017 will bring together key stakeholders to deliberate on emerging ICT issues which impact development.
The 2017 edition will focus on embracing innovation and efficiency in all sectors and fast-tracking growth and success rates for Start-ups and SMEs.
Exponential Technologies are Technologies that double in power or processing speed every year, while their cost halves.
Examples of Exponential Technology includes; Explosion in Connectivity, where it is estimated that there will be over six billion Internet users by 2020 worldwide; and a trillion connected devices in the Internet of Things, such as sensors, wearables, and trackers.
Exponential Technologies also deals with Cognitive and Quantum Computing, including Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning; Voice Recognition to provide automated real-time translation, Robotics and self-driving or semi-autonomous cars, Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), among others.
A 2-day developer-focused conference will be held in this year’s I-Week. Where Participants gain practical skills on crafting code, DevOps, frameworks and more. This will be a purely problem-solving session.
Find answers for real challenges, insights to help software careers and opportunities to network with some of the best developers.
There is a new addition to this year’s event; to unearth talents at the Senior High levels called the Raspberry Pi 4 Senior High; where Teams will be selected from Senior High Schools to develop an innovative solution to be presented at I-Week 2017.
The competing teams will come up with a solution using a Raspberry Pi kit. Solutions should be applicable to the SDGs or any of the 8 WSA categories.
CTO / CIO / IT Managers Connect; this will be a high-level discussion among decision makers on the current and potential threats to operational excellence and security challenges their organisations face today. Top managers will share ideas on best practices.
EXPONTech & Drone Show; Entrepreneurs who have built businesses on Exponential technologies will share experiences on how to cash in on the emerging and lucrative EXPONTech.
Discussions around the use of drones in various sectors and demonstrations of how Drones can be integrated into consumer and industrial Internet of Things applications will continue.
Participants can also learn how to fly a drone.
There will be Vendor Demonstrations, where a platform will be created for vendors in the EXPONTech space to showcase their innovative solutions and how the nation can leverage on the technology to develop.
Some of the vendors expected at the week-long celebration are Huawei, Samsung, Microsoft, Google, IBM, Cisco, Nuratel, Ericsson and Oracle, among others.
About Innovation Week (i-Week)
The Innovation Week- “i-week” is an initiative of the Ghana – India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, aims at showcasing ICT innovations in Ghana and her ECOWAS neighbors.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) represent key elements for economic and social development in Sub-Saharan Africa. Innovation should be showcased and promoted in all sectors of the economy including education, health, agriculture and business.
The development of home-grown applications, technological solutions, sustainable local ICT services, ICT-driven businesses, making use of Open Source technologies also need to be encouraged and given exposure for the growth of the technology ecosystem.

- Youth in ICT and Innovation: 10-12noon: Young IT entrepreneurs and youth interactive session
- Raspberry Pi Workshop (10: am-12noon)
SHS students will be getting a hands-on introduction on assembling and programming their own electronics projects using the Raspberry Pi (a tiny and affordable computer that you can use to learn programming through fun, practical projects).
