Dorothy K. Gordon, Director-General

Dorothy K. Gordon is the Director-General of Ghana's Advanced Information Technology Institute (AITI-KACE). She leads a team committed to using the opportunities that exist within the global innovation economy to bring about accelerated development in Africa. AITI provides globally benchmarked IT training; works to create the right environment to stimulate context-responsive ICT R&D and provides consulting services to support clients in achieving global quality standards. A strong network of global partnerships and local networks support AITI's work in diverse areas ranging from digital inclusion projects at the community level through to climate-modelling using high-performance computing resources.

Her work as a specialist in international development spans over 20 years with increasing leadership and management responsibilities. Her extensive experience within the United Nations is complemented by work in the private sector and with civil society organisations globally. She is Chair of the Commission on E-Government for the World IT Forum (WITFOR), President of the Ipv6 Forum Ghana, Africa Spokesperson for the World Summit Awards, Director,UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) as well as a member of the Champions network of the UNGAID - UN Global Alliance on ICT for Development.

The present direction of her work relates to how best ICT can be owned by developing countries. Capacity- building must set a sound foundation for innovation and cutting-edge research both to improve overall competitiveness as well as identify solutions for survival. She holds degrees from the University of Ghana and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) of the University of Sussex, UK.

 

Brako Kwarko, Director of Operations

Kofi Brako Kwarko is the Director of Operations at AITI. He heads AITI operations and manages AITI’s interface with the public, governments and the business community. In the last 6 years by association with the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT project, Kofi has been involved in setting up, promotion, marketing, business development, project management and coordination of AITI's activities both in Ghana and abroad.

Kofi has over seventeen years of working experience in the public and private sector. His career has spanned work in planning and development, logistics management, marketing and business development and re-engineering, change management, ICT integration and deployment . His background is in Development, Entrepreneurship and Business Information Technology. His specialties are in the areas business processes planning, operational management, re-engineering, technology investment & acquisition and planning. He has worked as ICT and Business Analyst and advisor for many organizations/institutions at the international, national, and non-governmental and in both the public and private sectors. He’s been involved in the development software applications in the area of websites, work-flow process and inventory systems. He also works as event and management consultant.

He has a Bsc degree in Development Planning from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, Postgraduate Diploma in Advance Computing from Center for Development for Advanced Computing, Bangalore, India and M.Sc in Business Information Technology from Middlesex University, London, United Kingdom.

 

Yaw Okraku-Yirenkyi, Director of Studies

Yaw Okraku-Yirenkyi, is the Director of Studies at the Advanced Information Technology Institute, Ghana-India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE). The focus of his work is ensuring the highest quality of training at the Centre and also develop new learning practices and as an Electrical/Electronic Engineer, use his expertise to give his best to society. His a Professional Engineer carrier with extensive experience in the Telecommunications industry, Power Generation & Supply and Academia spans over 15 years. He has worked with Electricity Company of Ghana, Kyushu Electric Power Company (Japan), Cingular Wireless (US), EQUIP International and Education (both in the UK). This allows him to tie training (academia) with the needs of private sector industry.

 

He holds a B.Sc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi. He was awarded an M.Eng in Electrical/Electronic Engineering & Ph.D in Systems Engineering in Miyazaki University (Japan) as a MONBUSHO scholar. He prides himself as a 'Technocrat' locally bred from Ghana Secondary Technical School, Takoradi (GSTS) -an institution that has made its mark in the training of world class engineers serving with renowned institutions such as NASA, GE and BOEING.

 

He is a member of Ghana Institute of Engineers (GhIE), Institute of Electrical/Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Association of Computer Machinery (ACM).
