The project was a special initiative by AITI-KACE in collaboration with the National Youth Authority (NYA) with funding support from UNESCO to train youth in mobile computing. Designed for youth leaders the project provided the necessary skills for the development and application of ICT through practical hands-on mobile computing.
The project goals included:
Equipping youth leaders with skills to develop mobile applications in line with organisation’s mandate;
Developing young people’s capacity to use mobile applications to solve local challenges; and
Supporting participants through distance learning.
Young people who were unemployed and with little or no computing training prior to the start of the project were selected from 16 districts accross the country and put into teams. The teams were able to develop mobile application solutions after 5 Months of intense training and mentoring. Their soltuions catered for common or existing challenges in the society.
A competition at the end of the programme saw the teams presenting and demonstrating their home-grown app solutions. A grand ceremony was held and the participants who had formed teams, presented and demonstrated, functional Mobile Application solutions for challenges some of Ghana’s institutions and sectors grapple with.
