The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE) in collaboration with the Linux User Group, Accra (LUGA) and the Internet Society, Ghana Chapter (ISOC) will again be hosting the special international event, Software Freedom Day (SFD) on Saturday, September 21, 2019 on the theme, “Innovation, AI & Open Source Technologies”.


Software Freedom Day is the largest global celebration and outreach event for Software Freedom globally involving volunteer groups in over 120 countries around the world. SFD is an annual grassroots effort to educate the public on the virtues of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and also to encourage its use.


This year’s event will be hosted in 3 locations Accra, Bolgatanga and Sunyani and is expected to attract 1000 participants physically across the 3 regions and many more virtually via online platforms. Participants will include government leadership, civil servants, private enterprises, IT organizations, researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators and students.


Activities for the celebration include creating awareness about the potential of open source technology for education, business and national development. There will also be discussions on the prospects of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cryptocurrency for Ghana as well as exhibition of open source projects and innovations.
